My favorite classes during my undergraduate degree and MBA were the leadership courses. And honestly those classes, and that of management in general, apply to the flight deck and that of being a pilot. Flying is about managing the aircraft systems, the people, and the operation.
I love to pay attention to the business world in the essence of leadership. That's how I met Irene Becker. She is a woman who faced loss, started over, and has achieved great success in coaching leadership strategies. I enjoy reading what she is doing in the business world as she always inspires.
Irene Becker
"Hope lies in not simply playing to strengths, but to seizing every challenge, change, stressor and failure as an opportunity to grow, evolve and expand the power of our minds, the strength of our brains and the capacity of our hearts."
Irene Becker
"Courage lies in our ability develop a whole new mind set, skill set and heart set that optimizes the unbridled passion, purpose and potential of humans to do better, rather than simply living or working faster than ever before."

Karlene,
ReplyDeleteWe share a common interest and belief in the concept of leadership.
"Flying is about managing the aircraft systems, the people, and the operation ... being a captain is about leadership" - Well said!
I couldn't agree more.
Pete
Thank you Pete! I really appreciate your comment.
DeleteI was speaking about this with some non-pilot friends; you're right, it's about leadership. The big difference with the business (or management) world, are the consequences of poor leadership. How many times, when the Captain has told his FO, "shut up, I'm the boss", has there been loss of life? In the business world, it normally has impact on profits.
ReplyDeleteCarlos... excellent point. On the ground money is the issue. In the plane, loss of life is. Insurance covers the expense. I don't think there is buy insurance for a stupid decision on the ground. So in this aspect, I'm thinking more so important in the flight deck. We can always replace the dollars, but never the life.
