Just when I thought I was finished...
I asked my first instructor, Author William Bernhardt, to read my novel. To learn what happened click HERE.
It's all good news, but I am back to the editing table. Whoever said writing was work, was not kidding. But it's incredibly fun. If you too want to learn to write, take a Bernhardt seminar, you won't be sorry.
Now for more fun.
I am second guessing the title of my book: Flight For Control.
Help me find a new name. If I use your suggestion, you win an autographed copy! All you have to do is sign up to follow, and leave me potential titles in the comments below. Yes, you can submit more than one guess in one entry.
A little about the novel without giving away the secrets:
The novel is based on current, and challenging, times in the airline industry and our world. Mergers, pay cuts, captains being bumped back to first officers ... furloughs, etc. Pilots can't sell their homes because of the housing market, and they're commuting farther distances and spending less time with their families. Stress. Fatigue. Anger. Depression. How do they focus?
Four unexplained airline crashes have terrorized a nation. My female protagonist once worked for the NTSB, but now is a mother of two and secretly returns to attempt to solve the mystery. Her husband is an airline pilot and running for, and elected to, his pilots union, and he is on the rampage. Department of Homeland Security, the FAA and the NTSB are all involved.
Plane crashes, sex, mystery, lies, deceit, and an industry gone astray fill the pages.
Thank you for your help!
Happy Flying and...
~ Enjoy the Journey~

I'm dreadful at thinking of book titles, but I am WAY too excited to read this!
ReplyDeleteHey Pup, okay, don't think of a book title...just words that might work. And ask your friends at school. Someone will come up with something!
ReplyDeleteFlying With No Control...
ReplyDeleteTurbulent Times. Best I can think of right now!
ReplyDeleteSee I knew you could come up with something. What is probably going to happen is I'll end up with a word from a couple people to make the name. Then I'll be giving out 3 novels!
ReplyDeleteI suck at titles. I keep coming up with cliched titles - "Terminating Flight" or "Final Approach" ect. For some reason I thought death was one of the subjects you listed (oh wait, that's my novel). If you could restyle the novel as a comedy, I'd suggest "Shift Happens!".
ReplyDeleteWrytersblock01 Lot's of death happening too. And... Funny... "Shit Happens" may just be the title of my series I'm working on. There is already a Final Approach. Thanks for your suggestions!
ReplyDeleteLipo and Louis, these are great! Thank you guys!!!
ReplyDeleteAs I've suggested via Twitter, "Breaching the Skies" is the title from me.
ReplyDelete@FHxoxo
I like Flight for Control--especially when I think about your plot. :-)

FHxoxo Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Portia, I liked mine too. But... a workshop in Seattle and Bill suggested something different. I'm getting a ton of great suggestions!
ReplyDeleteJo, Thank You! And Lauren too. These are great!
ReplyDeleteVincent, all of these are great! You could do this for a business. I hope you get feeling better. Drink lots of hot liquids, and get sleep.
ReplyDeleteWindtee... these are GREAT Okay... you too should go into business naming novels. Keep them coming, I'm writing a series and may just need more
ReplyDeleteYou know me, I'm still partial to Flight For Control. People are throwing around some great ideas though! The fasten your seatbelts comment got me thinking (thanks Pilot) what about Experiencing Turbulence. You could play off something a flight attend or pilot would tell the passengers and it fits with the novel. Just a thought!
ReplyDeleteThanks Heather! I like that. I'm going to list out all the names/words and start playing with them.
ReplyDeleteAren't these great?!
I love 121.5. from Windtee. Have no idea what it means though. But if it's an actual flight emergency code or something, that would be outstanding! Think Fahrenheit 451, Catch 22, etc. - okay, those have words as well as numbers, but there's something seriously grabbing about that number.
ReplyDeletethis is kind of corny, but I guess I'll put it here anyway: Approach...unstable or unstabilized approach...although I do like the original name that you have as there are a lot of ways to interpret it- leaves the reader wondering...Fight for control of the aircraft? Control of her life? Control of this crazy industry? Personally I think that you should stick with fight for control- but thats just my 2 cents.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anonymous! But...the title was Flight for Control. So... Fight for Control will be your thought?
ReplyDeleteSo many great suggestions!
Thank you Linda, and you just gave me a great idea! 121.5 is the emergency VHF frequency.
ReplyDeleteWhoops yeah, meant flight for control- but fight for control- I just think it adds some mystery to it- but like I said, just my 2 cents
ReplyDeleteDan
(ignore my earlier suggestion for the unstabilized approach- fight for control or flight for control is better.)
Thanks Dan... my daughter had a really good point. She said, that Flight For Control will reach a broader audience, the airplane terms...will only touch pilots.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I did this however, I got some great ideas for my series~
I'm partial to short titles, like: "Turbulence"
ReplyDeleteBut tell me, what's wrong with "Flight for Control" and why the second guessing?
ees
Eldon, thank you for the name! And... good question! More than I think about it... I'm thinking Flight For Control will be it. :)
ReplyDeleteBut... I have a bunch of names for other books and I'm going to be giving those novels away too!
As I suggested in Twitter:
ReplyDelete7700
77
or anything like that? :)
"Flight for you right"
ReplyDelete"Flying for life"
"Pilot for life"
Something like this... Good luck anyway!
XOX ;-)
RIKHT... Thank you for the 7700! And, yes... something like that sounds great!
ReplyDeleteHey! Its Martin!
ReplyDeleteThe office at 39, 000ft
or
Flight to Success
I really think flight to success is a really good name, so keep that in mind. Its original!!
Thanks Martin! I will keep it in mind. But the flights in this novel are not very successful. lol. I'll use it for another. You've just inspired me! Thank you! More to come.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, I don't think "Flight For Control" is the best title. I'm not saying these are either, but how about:
ReplyDelete"Bumpy Ride"
"Hard Landing"
"Five Miles High"
"Diversion"
"Go Around"
"Holding Pattern"
"The Long Descent"
D.B. These are great! Thank you. I'm writing a series, and I definitely will use one or more.
ReplyDeleteI'll keep you posted.
