Pilots For Kids

Each year groups of pilots all over the country visit hospitals bringing gifts, and smiles for children stuck in the hospital over Christmas. Last night Pilots for kids visited the children at Seattle's Children's Hospital. Nights like this remind me how lucky I am, and to never take my health for granted.

Giving is a great and wonderful thing. Especially over the holidays. But sometimes we don't want to give. Germs that is. Last week I flew to Austin, and painted a room, and played with one grandson. When I returned, I had a sleepover with three of my other grandchildren...who all had colds. Unfortunately this grandma picked up a bug.

Thus I became the designated driver helping one of Santa's helpers get to the hospital. Not wanting to expose the children to any germs, I didn't stay. But the jolly continues...

What did you do to share a bit of Holiday Spirit today?

Happy Holidays!
XO Karlene

  1. Oh ho-ho, and Oh so sad. But very smart of you to not share those germs. Careful hygiene and lots of hand washing helps, but it is about as 'perfect' as most good landings. You've obviously found ways to share the spirit, but limit the spread of those nasty germs. Look on the bright side, Karlene, as you always do, and remember that most of the grandkids' germs are probably worth catching. Merry Christmas! -C.

    1. Craig, They are the BEST kind of germs. And I would catch them any day. Oh...when I'm not catching kisses. That's what Mr. Carter is doing inside the cupboard. Blowing me a kiss.
All my little sweeties are so cute!

  2. This is such a good event and I'm sure the children appreciated it. You did what you could yesterday to bring joy to their lives, and at the same time keep the germs out of reach :-)

At work, I gift wrapped gifts for one of my customers. He was thankful and wished me a happy Christmas. Same to you, I replied. This was my last day at work before Christmas :-)

Have a joyous holiday, to you and your family Karlene!

    1. Cecilia, I bet that gift meant more to your customer than you can imagine. You just never know when someone needs that special touch.

Happy Holidays and enjoy them now. No work for awhile!

  3. This is wonderful! I didn't know pilots did this. But considering your generous spirit, I should have known. ;) SO sorry to hear you picked up a bug! I hope you feel better soon.

  6. Karlene, this is a great post. I am greatful that they have causes like this as you are right - never take health for granted. I will not elaborate on what the effect pediatric cancer commercials have on me. I am glad that you all were a part of brightening their holidays. Yes, lights - the soul.

I love the photos of the grandkids as always and love the suburban shot with the Santa hat!!
