  1. 787 video from East Midlands Airport - where I spent countless hours as a youngster in the 70s, watching Vickers Viscounts and BAC 1-11s painted in British Midland Airways colors, plus the occasional Dan-Air, Horizon and Monarch charters. If the wind was right, they would turn on final over our house North of Derby.

    1. Thank you so much for sharing more about this video! What a great way to grow up watching planes fly over head. I think it becomes part of your soul. Then you get sucked into the sky.

  2. I agree: I haven't taken to the skies and it is already a favorite. (Despite the fact my allegiance is to the 777). Perhaps this is why we can call it the Dreamliner? All we can do now is dream of being on it.

    1. Most definitely! We can dream of being on it and flying it too. I have to say... "one day!"

  3. I love the 787. I'd say it is probably the best design that has ever come out of a Boeing factory. Yes, even better than the 757 and 747! I love the wings, and from a pilot's perspective it looks like a wonderful machine to operate (push buttons)

    1. I love the design too. We'll go on the Boeing tour when you come to town. You can see how far back the wings truly extend back. This plane gives the meaning to swept wing. And when she flies, she just soars.

    2. I was actually scheduled to fly the 787 from Houston IAH to Amsterdam in January with United, but due to the delivery delays, my flight is now scheduled on a 767-400ER. A bit of a bummer..

    3. A huge bummer. I was selected to instruct on the 787 at NWA. And then a major delay, followed by a merger, stopped that plan before it even got off the ground.

  4. Hi Karlene

I saw your post about Boeing 787 Dreamliner. It is one of my favourite airplanes along with A380, A330 and Boeing 777.

About 3 weeks ago I was at Singapore Changi during transit and I saw a brand new Japan Airlines 787. I saw it at very close distance. It is a very beautiful and sleek airplane.

All the passengers who flew 787 on it loved it due to high cabin pressure, high humidity and comfort. It also has a computerised flight control system which minimises effects by turbulence. The interior is very roomy and spacious.Due to its advanced wings desigh it can ride through turbulence very well.

I have heard from pilots the 787 is very stable. It handles like a Boeing 777. It is fly by wire .It has flight envelop and speed protection built in .The pilots can override the protection using excessive force on the wheel. ever there is no auto trim like the A330 and pilots have to trim the plane manually.

    Another interesting fact
In the beginning Boeing considered sidestick controllers for the aircraft. Boeing developed their won sidestick and it was tested on test bed 757 aircraft.
Finally they decided against the sidestick. Why?
You know the answer better than me,

Please click the video below and watch it
Impresssive flying display of Qatar Airways Boeing 787 at Farnborough airshow. It was flown by Boeing Technical pilots. It is Amazing

    1. Ravi, Thank you for the incredible comment! I love these kind of facts. And I do know the answer to the ..."Why?" Pilots.
I wanted to say that United was the test customer and they didn't want it.
