Happy 4th of July!

Today I am flying from Paris to Minneapolis. So close to home but not enough time to get there and back, as tomorrow I fly to Amsterdam. The great news is... I get to fly! And that in itself is what  dreams are made of.

I'm proud to live in a country where
all people have the freedom
to pursue their dreams.

Are you pursuing yours?

Happy Birthday America!
Have a safe and Happy 4th of July!

Enjoy the Journey...
XO Karlene

  1. Wow. I guess major holidays are a good thing for pilots who choose to fly reserve and really do want to fly. Not only a few trips, but the live take offs and landings that do make a difference. I have to believe that active flying of the real machine, including TOs and the odd 'planted' landing make all of you better pilots. The sims have their function, but they are no substitute for live driving with 300+ souls in your care. I would call it a Happy Holiday for all concerned. Enjoying the backyard picnic with family and friends really can wait until you have the time to enjoy it, perhaps without a phone in your pocket. As an experienced educator, you know the value of doing it, as opposed to talking about it.
I can't wait to hear about your pending airplane buy; both potential brands/types have a wide range of choices and I'm sure that it is not an easy process. How the heck does one price and consider all of the AIs, lurking ADs and potential avionics upgrades that your intended missions will require? (Your MBA, spreadsheets and a few sharp pencils is my guess.) Best wishes and Happy Landings. -Craig

    1. Craig, Thank you so much for the comment. My 4th was spent writing the night away and then a very long sleep so I could get as close to wake up time as possible. The plane search is a challenge...but so much fun! Thinking about the 210. The plane I want is spoken for... but there are more, and I will find the best.

Also... I flew with two pilots who were adamant that we should not kick off automation and hand fly with pax on board because of the added distraction. Going into Paris the accents were strong and comm difficult. Many aircraft in the area. We were all tired. Vectors. Speed constraints. Accents. The pilot flying the plane really is taken out of the loop for the backup monitoring and assurance things are tuned properly and leaves the guy not flying doing it all. On that flight I completely agreed. So this is a challenge for sure. More to come on that soon!

  2. You are very right. There is no place like the country we live in. We must do everything in our power to keep it this way it is.

    Have a safe flight back!

    1. Thank you Jeremy, I hope you had a Happy 4th!!!
