Secret Life of a Pilot

A Dutch King!

Yes, a Dutch King has been leading a secret double life as an airline pilot for 21 years. While this may be old news, it's pretty darn cool! Do you know who you're flying with?

Reuters:

"Bruce Willis has nothing on Dutch King, who just revealed he's been moonlighting as a professional pilot for the past 21 years. The king's dubbelleven, or “double life,” as De Telegraaf called it, involves being a co-pilot on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.

For more than two decades, the king has flown Fokker 70 planes twice a month, taking unsuspecting passengers on short-haul flights. He calls it a relaxing hobby. If you think you'd recognize if your pilot was someone famous, or even your country's leader, think again.

“The advantage is that I can always say I am speaking on behalf of the captain and crew to welcome them on board, so I don't have to say my name,” Willem-Alexander told De Telegraaf, according to Sky News. “But then, most people don't listen anyway.”  KLM, for its part, tweeted a photo of the king in the cockpit"

Gifts from God

The Beauty in Life

My friend sent me an email that must be shared. Beauty is everywhere if we look. What a wonderful world!

"May God grant you always…
A sunbeam to warm you,
A moonbeam to charm you,
A sheltering Angel, so nothing can harm you,
Laughter to cheer you,
Faithful friends near you,
and whenever you pray,
Heaven to hear you."

Ali Mazhar

Friday's Fabulous Flyer

Ali Mazhar

"I was born in Karachi, a port city in Pakistan. My city was close to an air force base and I guess my parents noted that I liked the airplanes so they nurtured my passion. By the time I was entering college, the best way to enter aviation was through joining the military. I did try but never made it.

The second best thing I knew was drawing and I picked up architecture as a major. But the love of aviation never dies....it runs in your veins. It makes you dream and also makes you sleepless. 2003 I decided that I must pursue aviation. The same year I moved to Florida and did my MS in Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle and subsequently worked in various different roles within the industry.

In 2010 I went back to ERAU again and got my MBA and MS in Aviation Finance. At the same time I started flying and currently have almost 300 hours. Only I know how badly I want to get into the right seat. I don't know when, but I know I will not be at peace until I have done so . ( that's why I want to build a case against the ATP rule )

As for my aviation art, I have never done it professionally, but I have produced art work for some private collectors as well some fighter squadrons in Pakistan Air Force. I always look for a personality in an aircraft and see how I can bring that out in my sketches.

I am a supporter for women in aviation. The very first portrait that I did was of Capt. Nicole Malachowski - the first female Thunderbird pilot. I would like to do a series of women aviators someday highlighting their contribution in modern day commercial aviation. I am currently work for American Airlines as a Senior Analyst in Information Technology -Finance group."

Inspiration never ends when a pilot is dreaming to fly. I will do my best to help Ali reach his dreams and support re-regulation with the arbitrary 1500-hour rule.

Hours don't make a pilot, ability and aptitude do.

Ali Thank you for Sharing your Story!
And your Artwork is
absolutely amazing!

Enjoy the Journey!

NOTAMS

FROM MARK!

"B757 ( G-BIKB) June 30th was to have made her last ever flight then be broken for spares, the flight was BRUSSELS - MADRID, but in a stay of execution she was flown into DHL hub at Nottingham East Midlands airport from Madrid to which she is still parked. B757 ( G- BIKB) was first a/c of type to fly in Europe when bought direct from Boeing Seattle

British Airways, she was also 4th off the line of initial batch of type.

As for British Airways, they are near a week into a 16 day strike action by MIXED FLEET CREWS over pay and conditions, it wont affect SHORT - HAUL FLIGHTS just LONG - HAUL FLIGHTS.

Although the airline contacted passengers so as to either re-route or re-book, B.A. was forced to admit shortfall and through talks with C.A.A. the airline brought in 19 complete crews inc pilots from QATAR AIRWAYS, what is not known is whether they are to fly the grounded B.A. a/c or bring a/c with them. The reason for the talks with C.A.A. is over license agreements."

Our Flag Stands for Independence

Happy 4th of July!

Today is a day to celebrate,
Because it's Independence Day,
So wave your flag with honor,
And do it today.

We fought hard for our freedom,
Throughout the many years,
But it was all worth it,
As we shed a lot of tears.

We'll go out and watch the fireworks,
As they go off in the night,
And we say to one another,
It's truly an amazing sight.

So let us be proud,
And not even ask why,
We just need to remember,
On this 4th of July.
