“I have a mental map of the book, and boy, is this one ever a labyrinth. Think three-dimensional Midwestern corn maze. It's quite a wild ride. A lot of it scares me, but it reveals a lot about the current state of the commercial aviation industry, stuff that most people don't even think about or can imagine happening..."

STORY:
Three airliners have crashed in the last year and nobody knows why. After a ten-year leave, Kathryn Jacobs has been invited back to the N.T.S.B to investigate this series of unexplained airline crashes. But her husband, Captain Bill Jacobs, has his concerns. While her twin daughters are off at camp, and Bill is actively campaigning for the Pilot Union Presidency, Kathryn secretly begins her investigation.
What she learns will shock the nation.
Flight For Control is a thriller that reads like a mystery. But to Kathryn, there is no mystery on the condition of the airline industry—it’s broken. Planes are crashing. Pensions are lost. Pilots are financially and emotionally bankrupt due to fatigue, furloughs, and loss of seniority. It’s time that someone takes control before it’s too late—unless it already is.

Read what the experts say:
Flight For Control is a fascinating debut and a truly terrifying insider's take on the airline industry by an author who knows what she's talking about. You will not want to get on an airplane after reading Petitt's book.

House Divided, House Secrets and House Justice
“A strong debut with a complex plot that keeps the reader guessing until the very end.”
Robert Dugoni—Lawyer and New York Times Bestselling Author of fiction

“Flight for Control is a powerhouse debut novel. Karlene Petitt combines her insider knowledge of the airline industry with her impressive writing skills to create a spellbinding thriller. Why did Flight 39 crash? Could there be more to these air disasters than meets the eye? And what can Kathryn do about it? I was hooked on the first page and never stopped reading till it was over.”

I just update this post! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! It will be on your way on the 15th.
Way to go!!!!
ReplyDeleteI can hardly wait to read it :-D
Thank you Michell!!! I appreciate that so much!! I can hardly wait for you to read it too.
DeleteOK, so I am the spoilt one.... here in the African bush lands this book (a preview copy sent with a lovely inscription) has got everyone who sneaks a peak putting their name on the 'reading circle list'.... just read a few random pages and you will be hooked - it is probably the most gripping book that I have read - but our Lady pilot (Patricia) on the airfield keeps on hiding it and telling us 'She has to read it all first'... got my hands on it for ten minutes this morning and I am now plotting to kidnap it after she goes to sleep tonight! Well done Karlene - a best - best - best seller if ever I saw one!! Great, appropriate and spectacularly written! Ayekoo (well done) from the Medicine on the Move team in Ghana!
ReplyDeleteCapt. Yaw, I am so glad you're enjoying it! And... can hardly wait until you find your mention. He may be a bad, bad man... but his life was not in vain. He ended up doing a good thing. Thank you so much for the comment!
DeleteSo excited and happy for you! I'm going to get it on my Kindle ASAP! Although I may want a signed copy too from my favorite pilot! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Vic! I can hardly wait for your comments after you read it. Thank you!!!!!
DeleteAaaaaaa I'm so proud to have been part of it! I knee you could do it! I'm getting the Kindle one so I can start reading it early.
ReplyDeleteThank you Christine! I'm excited for you to see how much it changed. A different ending, too. And there is a special mention for a special person too! Thank you!!! Thank you!! Thank you!!!
DeleteYay, it's here! I've read it: here's my Amazon review (everyone can go to Amazon and add their reviews, too :-) ):Flight for Control is a heart-pounding, bone-shaking aviation thriller that manages to incorporate fun and humor in the broader story, too. The friendships among the women in the book are great, and key to the plot, along with shocking behavior and unsettling revelations by other characters. I think this book will appeal to both men and women. Petitt is a long-time pilot who knows what she's talking about in the world of commercial aviation. You will stay up late reading this book (but you might not want to do that while you're a passenger on an airplane)
ReplyDeleteLinda, Thank you so much for the great review. You know where it was and where it is... and where it will be. I can't thank you enough for all your support. And... did I forget to mention brilliant?
DeleteKarlene, I am so excited for you! As one who had the privilege of reading the first chapter of Fight for Control I know that it will immediately capture your readers. I can’t wait to see how Kathryn Jacobs’ adventure turns out. Congratulations and I’m very proud of you!
ReplyDeleteBob, Thank you so much. Your comment and support mean so much. First chapter or prologue? I'm thinking the only thing that hasn't changed is the prologue. lol. Keep me posted on what you think.
DeleteCongratulations, Karlene. Can't wait for the Nook download to come out. Hurry up and sell enough to buy your airplane so you can fly to Fort Worth for the DFW Writers Conference in May.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dave. I'm going to have to check out that conference! My challenge is the March, April, May... I need more days! Where can I find them?
DeleteHello Karlene!! Hardcover signed copy ordered Yeyyyy :) Can't wait to get it in my hands!! Haven't been so excited for a new book like this for a long time.
ReplyDeleteI wish super mega hyper success for your book!!
All the best!
@LEANDROFGJ
Thank you!! I will email you when it is on your way! I appreciate your excitement so much!!
DeleteHello Karlene,
ReplyDeleteJust downloaded your book onto my Kindle, looking forward to a great read! Congratulations and I wish you nothing but success with your book!
YYC Dispatcher
Yeah! Thank you so much. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your support. And, I'm really looking forward to comments. Always striving towards improvement for the next.
DeleteKarlene,
DeleteI've enjoyed the first third of the book, can definitely see how a movie based on the book would be 'R' rated. I'm sure you had a lot of fun writing it during your layovers and your deadhead flights.
YYC Dispatcher
Karlene,
DeleteI finished reading your book (is it still called a book when downloaded?) and after staying up way too late last night to complete it, I really enjoyed a great read. I found the second half of the book in particular had me not wanting to put it down. Do you have any future plans for more writing? Perhaps a non-fictional book based on your career?
All the best,
YYC Dispatcher
Oh... this is great news! I was hoping for the momentum to go faster at the end and want you to keep reading. I am working on the second book in the series. "Flight For Safety." And yes... the non-fiction version of that same book will come out when I'm ready to retire. You will love Fight For Safety. I'm also working on an A330 study guide right now, and a leadership book. Thank you so much for your support and your comments!
DeleteCongrats so much, Karlene! It must be a wonderful feeling to hold it in your hands, finally. I want it!!! But there is a small problem, I still can't use my card for online payments, damned. I have to go to the bank and change it!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Teri! I love and appreciate the congratulations. Now we do need to get you to that bank. lol. I live by on-line shopping. :)
DeleteFantastic news Karlene and congratulations. I can't wait to read it. When can I get my paws on it in the UK? Well done !
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Munawar! Yes... you can. I think on Amazon. Or, I'm shipping autographed copies. Shipping kind of ups the price significantly. But... It will be available over there. I'm going to travel around and do book signings. We should set up something at your Tower! That would be so much fun!
DeleteExcellent. I will go for a signed copy. I would love to set something up at the tower. Perhaps after my trip to Australia ?
DeleteGreat! Okay... click on the button on top of the page. :) Yes... set something up at the Tower. When do you go to Australia?
DeleteThanks and I can't wait to read it. I'm down under from Feb 27th to March 17th.
DeleteWhat can I say but... I need, I want, I HAVE to read this!
ReplyDeleteDon't sell them all at once, because there are a few beloved people that I want to make happy with your book!
See you in Seattle...xoxo An
Thank you An. If I sell them all we'll just buy some more!! Looking forward to seeing you in Seattle! XOXO
DeleteI have to say that I thoroughly enjoy this book so much. As an aviation enthuisast and someone who loves romance in his life, the story is absolutely enjoyable. It didn't take long for me for me to get glued to it. In fact, I am still feeling sad that the story has ended, I wished for more! I am going to leave more comments on my review. Well done, Karlene ! You did a great job on this book. Looking forward to your next.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your feedback Charles!! And not to worry... sequel is on the way. I'm thinking I might have to keep the romance in. :)
DeletePatricia wants to read this on the plane to Europe for her Engine maintenance refresher training - I am trying to suggest 'NOT the best book to read whist ON a plane!'.... Oh, my.... what have you done Ms Karlene!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking she is a smart intelligent woman who will carry it on the flight... Tell all the flight and cabin crew about it... And everyone in her class. Perhaps on the return too. I say.., we must take this risk!!! :)
DeleteHow did I miss the release? (*hanging head in shame*). I'm downloading on my Kindle in a moment! So looking forward to reading it, Karlene!
ReplyDeleteThank you Angela... no head hanging. We are all so busy! Thank you so much. And... come to the Fly It Forward Event on Saturday. :)
DeleteHi Karlene,
ReplyDeleteI finally got to read your book "Flight for Control" which has been sitting on my bookshelf for a couple of months.
The book was very addictive - you should have warned me! I was unable to put it back down until I got to the end at 2:30 A.M. last night...
Intriguing plot, which keeps thickening throughout the book. You just keep wondering, what's next... Brilliantly written and you convey the current conditions in the airline industry really well! Can't wait to read the sequel.
Appreciate what you are doing for the aviation community!
Nick Rahkonen
Nick, THANK YOU so much!! I really appreciate your comments. I am so close on book two. But... 520 pages! lol. So... you'll definitely get more. I'm hoping we'll have it out by August. Your comment is awesome. Would you do me a huge favor and leave a comment on Amazon? I would really appreciate it. We need more of these comments. Thank you!!! You made my day.
