Flight For Safety is complete!

I awoke at 0200 on Wednesday and did that final read. 16 hours later... I gave a Whoo Hoo! Compliments of the holiday, it may take two (three) weeks to bring Flight For Safety to market, but now I will join you in the waiting game.

Then I celebrated by writing Christmas cards. They may be late... but they are on their way.

Have a GREAT holiday weekend!!!

  1. Thanks Karlene for all you do. Today my NEW Flight Trilogy Boxed Set (Kindle Edition) was released. Buy the boxed set and get three novels for the price of two. Great Christmas gift.

Here is a little plug for the Flight Trilogy:

The Flight Trilogy transports readers on a thrilling journey to find true love (Flight to Paradise), through the dark valley of fear to discover faith (Flight into Darkness), and finally to the miracle of lasting peace and satisfying hope (Flight to Freedom).

The eight-year project was inspired by what the author believes to be the common threads that connect all of humanity: Love, Faith, and Hope.

One reader recently said: “Oh my word, Mike. I just finished reading the last book in your trilogy. All three books are phenomenal! They are truly remarkable and I enjoyed each one. I can't thank you enough for transporting me out of this world and into one that brought so many emotions.” Birmingham, AL.

  2. Thanks Karlene!
"Understanding Air France 447" is not just about one accident. But that accident is emblematic of the current state of affairs where some pilots can barely fly their own airplane without the automation. Colgan 3407 and Asiana 214 are but the latest examples of a system where pilots have not been trained or practiced enough to put raw aviator skills to work when the chips are down.
To find out why so many readers call it a "must read for every pilot" check out the book's reviews on Amazon.com.
Paperbacks at Aviation Universe, Amazon, BN.com & signed books at understandingAF447.com ebooks at amazon, google play, apple store, smashwords.com, bn.com, and more.

    2. Hi Captain Bill. I've just finished reading your AF447 book. An eye-opener and I learned a lot. Thanks. -C

    3. I learned a lot too. And Bill was one of my technical editors on Flight For Safety. Imagine going inside the flight deck of AF447, and living inside the heads of one of those pilots while they experienced the fall and the crash. What were they experiencing... chilling. :)

  3. Thanks, Karlene! I wanna read 'em all! ESPECIALLY Cap'n Bill's "Understanding Air France 447"--I hear it's excellent! And fyi, 100% of my novels' proceeds this month are going to two orphan charities (normally it's 50%):

  4. That tennis you wear is famous!

I'm confident those books are recommended from a very trustful source, but I wish I had enough funds to buy all of them.

Except from Eric's, because he gave them to me. Eric, I didn't forget our deal, so I need you to wait a bit more. Need to get my slot at uni first!

Happy Christmas to all the writers in the pics!

  5. Thanks, Karlene! What a wonderfully fun post. And what a great reminder that there are multiple pilots out there who 'just happen' to write well. An established commercial pilot's schedule may be hectic, but those who manage their time (and sleep schedules) well have simply huge opportunities to pursue other activities as well. Writing is common, advanced education in both science and the arts is common. Some practice professions (I know one senior 'major line' First Officer who is also a practicing emergency room physician!) and many practice the legal arts. As you have demonstrated over the years, it is mostly about being well organized and practicing excellent time management skills. When one's time a managed effectively, dual professions are possible and without compromising either. (With a silly , you seem to wear three or four major hats, but you are a unique individual.) Best wishes for the holidays. -C.

    1. Craig, you are so sweet. Yes... this month the Santa hat. Now... I might have to take a picture of my desk and demystify the organized part of your comment. But a clean desk is the sign of a sick mind. lol. Many balls in the air, and balancing them all...so far.
Happy Holidays to you and your family!!

  6. Thank you for this great post, Karlene! I'm adding all these books to my list!

My book, "Amazing Airlines", takes you on a behind-the-scenes trip through the fascinating world of airlines, exploring the systems that are working to help you fly from one place to another. Inside, you'll find chapters on airlines, flight crew, airports, air traffic control and a brief history of commercial aviation. You'll also explore topics like baggage handling, airline food, airplane manufacturing and aerodynamics. The simple language and smooth narration makes the book suitable even for teenagers and young adults. Interesting bits of information throughout the book means that there is never a boring moment.

I am currently offering a 10% discount off the list price of the print version, available on Amazon

    Happy Holidays!

  9. Karlene,

I'm very honored to be part of this esteemed group of aviation writers, and I love Aviation Universe. If only they could build a tunnel from the shop, under the new ORD runways, and into the terminal.

Here's a teaser from my memoir, in case anyone is still holiday shopping for a nonfiction paperback, or receives a new Kindle for Xmas:

13,760 Feet--My Personal Hole in the Sky

"The 747 that went up whole and came down in 876 pieces invaded every part of my life. My only consolation is that, without being able to turn around, Susanne never saw behind her the giant hole where the rest of the aircraft should have been—an oblong oval opening to the tumbling sky, bordered by torn cables, shredded aluminum aircraft skin, sheared beams and spars, and accented with sparking severed wires. And I hope she couldn’t comprehend what was actually happening if she lived long enough to ride this nearly three mile high, free-falling hell-ivator all the way down to the ocean’s surface, and then sink to 140 feet below, where her body would wait to be recovered."

    1. They're building a tunnel under Seattle... I think we'll have them work under the ORD runways next!
My pleasure. Your memoir is incredible, and hopefully all will read it.

  10. Wow so many great books. Where do I start! I'm excited to be included on this list with my GA oriented work - The Pilot's Guide To Flying On a Budget.

The title is self-explanatory, but I would love to add that if you read it and don't come away with a few nuggets on how to fly cheaper, I'll refund your money, no questions asked.

Having read some of the books listed, I know the caliber of this group and I can't wait to read Karlene's new book. Also on that wish list is Mark Berry's and Mark Lawrence's. Books like those are always hard to put down. I have a copy of Aditya's book, Amazing Airlines, but I daughter grabbed it and won't give it back. Seemed his youth has attacked a like crowd.

As I'm writing this on Dec 22nd, I'll wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

  11. We are so honored to be included along with these amazing authors, many of which we carry in our shop. I should mention that in lieu of the tunnel being constructed we do offer a shuttle service for crews with layovers or breaks at ORD. We can pick you up, bring you back to the store to shop, then return you to ORD or your hotel. Or you can call in your order and we can meet you with it at the terminal. Either way give us as much notice as you can so we can ensure we have the crew and mini-van available! Oh, and this is a FREE service we offer to everyone (not just you Karlene and Mark!) ;)

Happy holidays everyone! Lora Yowell - Aviation Universe
