Poor Safety Culture

The Cause of Accidents

NSTB finds that company's safety culture was to blame in the 2015 crash that killed 8 cruise ship passengers. Lives were lost because of an airline's lack of safety culture...

"My philosophy is that people don't make errors in a vacuum and there's oftentimes organizational issue, that they are part of a system- it's just too easy to say, 'The pilot screwed up,' and I wand to understand these underlying issues"
Robert Sumwalt
NTSB Board's Chair

How's your Airline's
Safety Culture?

So, what does a NEW, green pilot do, if they realize
that they've been hired in to such a company?

    1. Dan, This is an excellent question! From what I have learned is that airlines without a safety culture will retaliate in ways you could never imagine if you speak out. The basis of my novel, Flight For Sanity.

Which puts the pilot into such a corner. Speak out, and have your career destroyed. Do what they say and keep your mouth shut, and have an accident, and die.

I think this question needs to be a blog post!!

Most newbies who are faced with these cultures wait it out, thinking the next airline will be better. But, that is not always the case. We have a huge issue with safety culture, or lack of, going on right now. But know that my education, experience, and the PHD will not go to waste, and my efforts are for all the newbie pilots and others fearful for their careers.

I think it will take those of us coming to the end of our careers to speak out on your behalf. To fix this problem. I'm willing to do that... for you, and for safety.

      Thanks for the great question!
