North Star

"Many years ago the “North Star” crew took up a collection every year for toys to take to the White Mountain Orphanage (Near Nome) – the same White Mountain mentioned in Johnny Horton’s 1960 hit song “North to Alaska”.  The ship anchored in Golovin Bay and we ran their freight (and toys) up the river to White Mountain in LCM cargo lighters.  It was “Christmas in July” but the kids didn’t seem to mind. " Captain Jim Wright.
