The Pilot Factor

Taking CRM to the next level:

"Was I daring? – or simply doing my job?… I pondered as I waited for the hangar door to open. I accepted the trip based on our company’s SOPs and my own comfort level, knowing full well that although the ride would be rough, it would none-the-less be safe.

I quickly found out that not everybody felt the same way. One of the paramedics, pulling me aside, pointed a finger at the winter storm blowing outside the open hangar door. “Just so you know” he stated boldly, “I do not feel comfortable going flying in this weather”. And with this he stormed past me mumbling to himself, visibly upset by his apparently impending doom. What was I to do?"

    A MUST READ FOR ALL SERIOUS PILOTS!

    We professional pilots tend to be Type A problem solvers. No "touchy-feeling charm school" stuff for us! This book dragged me, kicking and screaming, back to reality. By throwing our CRM (Crew Resource Management) theory against the human factor filter, Jean taught me that I could be a BETTER pilot by learning how to interact with people. It's that simple!

    Thanks, Jean, for a book that is surely the leading edge of a revolution in aviation CRM!

    1. Thanks for the comment Eric. I think one of the great things about this book is identifying our styles, the styles of who we work with... and learn how they impact the operation. I've done extensive research during the MBA thing, and Jean pulls it together with the flight deck in an easy read.
      Yes... leading edge stuff.
