Juliet Kuruwaa: "Why I Want To Fly"

Another incredible essay from a talented and beautiful young lady from Ghana. Aviation has not only touched her life, but changed it.

Juliet Kuruwaa

 INTRODUCTION

Juliet Kuruwaa is my name and I am a citizen of Ghana in West Africa. A student of Aviation Technology Academy, studying piloting and engineering. My ambition to become a pilot started from the very first day I saw a plane in the sky. I become so excited anytime I see a plane in the air. This excitement and interest in seeing planes in the air grew stronger and stronger until one day I said to my self I would also learn to fly a plane. That is how it all started.

My ambition has given me the opportunity to learn more about aviation. The kind of policies in aviation makes me feel very secure. Some of the reasons why I want to fly are as follows;

WHY I WANT TO FLY

Since I became part and parcel of aviation, my attitude towards safety has improved and I can now figure out things that can cause problems. This is because without safety there would not be aviation. My way of recommending safety in all aspect of aviation is very high and I do not rake any danger to be small or little because the little accident you see today can cause big accident tomorrow. Learning to fly has change my mindset about safety I am now particular about everything I do making safety my priority. Also it has given me the opportunity to know much about how to maintain airport/airfield which has really helped me in my personal life. Learning to fly has given me a special eye with which I now see things differently as pilots and engineers can see.

Furthermore as good a citizen of Ghana with the knowledge I have acquired in aviation, I would like to fly for my country to increase the number of female pilots. Ghana is rich in natural resources but lack human resources I would like to learn to fly so that I can also spread the good ways of aviation to those who do not have any idea about aviation.

Also I will like to teach young girls how to fly and aviation in general.  Again in my country and other middle income countries, not all people have education on aviation so I would like to share my experience in aviation with other young girls in my village.  I will do everything in my power to help my dear young ones with the experience I have gained as I continue to work towards my flying course.

I want to fly because my first day in an ultra light aircraft was the happiest day in my life. Being above the ground was a remarkable moment for me. Knowing the changes in the pressure of wind on the ground and in the air was unbelievable.

My first day of being on the controls was amazing. It was a dream come true. And all I told myself it is really fun and joy to be a pilot. Learning to fly makes you more responsible and enables you to take smart decisions within the shortest possible time. I love to be given a lot of responsibilities concerning learning to fly.

Lastly Ghana is a developing country and needs its human resources to stay in the country to help facilitate its development, I would like to stay in my country after my training and use the skills I have acquired in aviation to help my country.   People in the cities have the best in life they can afford but what about those in the rural areas who have not been introduced into aviation and are suffering from diseases and other disasters. I want to fly to enable me help my people in the village and to extend this help to those who need my help.

Juliet, the people of Ghana are lucky to you have you on their team, making their world a better place to live. Keep flying and focusing on safety. With your care and concern, and special way of seeing everything, you will carry so many on your wings.

Enjoy the Journey!

  2. Thank you Andrew! I wish I could do something... but we're doing a different kind of fly day. My youngest daughter flew in from Chicago and we're having her baby shower on the 21st. I'll be celebrating from the ground honoring a future pilot. And... the baby is due on the first day of Oshkosh.
