It's All about the Boeing B777

"He that can have patience
can have what he will."

Benjamin Franklin

Well over a year ago I received the bid on the B777. This month I am finally scheduled to start training. I've got my training materials, and then some, and my head is in the books. On a side note, the last time I flew a Boeing, was a B747-400 in the Spring of 2008. This is also the first time I've flown a Fly-by-Wire Boeing Aircraft.

Good things come to those who wait,
so never give up on your dreams.

While studying comes in many forms, learning comes through understanding. Learning is also enhanced when we connect what we're learning to something we know. Thank goodness I have had a life of Boeing Aircraft. I have been reading a variety of B777 sources in order to fully understand the plane.

I also study at they gym on the elliptical trainer. Motion does help the memory. As does visualization. Also, when you understand something well enough to explain it, you have a better chance of recall. Thus, I will be dedicating my blog for the next few weeks, maybe a month, to the B777, sharing lessons learned.

Standby for everything you wanted to know about the B777, and maybe a little bit more.

Enjoy the Journey!

  3. Welcome back to the light side; make sure to practice some crosswind landings. Sorry, I just have to take the cheap shot :)

  5. , which says a lot. I hope you eventually agree. You may miss the A330 for a few early trips, Despite the temporary detour, you've always been a genuine Boeing woman and the world knows it. Your transition training won't be easy, but you already know much of tine details to this wonderful airplane. Most pilots of my experience claim that it is the most pilot-friendly airplane that they have ever flown, but your experience with Boeing and living almost within sight of the Renton plant, make you a Certified Boing Woman. The B777 may have borrowed some FBW technology, but most 777 of my knowledge think it the best flying machine of their careers. pilots claim to fly the world's best airplane, a Pilot's The B777 simply gives the pilot(s) plenty of options. Keep your fuel warm and you will fall in love. Best regards on all fronts, including those not mentioned here. You have more friends than you know...

    1. Craig, Thank you so much!! Yes, the detours in life take us on routes we never expect and then back on our path we go, stronger than ever. The great folks in Seattle have accepted me when I went to the dark side, and they are all supportive of my return. And.. I'm so happy to be back! This is a fun process...and loving whatI'm reading. Thank you for your support. Always!!!

  7. Karlene,

The skies are much friendlier when your up there. I know wrong catch phrase but still is the truth.

Welcome back to the world of the aviator! You have earned it.

The down side of the 777 is that you have to find a bank that will give you correct change for all the gold bars that your company will pay you to travel to China, Kuwait, and India.

    1. Thank you so much Rob! Also... rumor has it that we are flying to Amsterdam and Paris next year on my plane. :) Okay... gold bars... we can bury them in the back yard. Many hugs! Thanks for the welcome back!

  8. Karlene, thank you for posting about the 777 for the past few days. I am really happy that your studies are coming along and that you are starting training. It is actually getting me to study my flashcards.

People have asked me why I love the 777 because as they think it looks like "just an ordinary plane." The truth is, it is a whole different bird inside based on FBW technology, built with lighter materials, to which you elaborated on posts above. All of this attracted me to it (like love at first flight) when I first read about it in the late 90s. It is truly a technologically advanced plane that came at the right time. And now.. nextGen plans to enhance the plane into the 777-9/X. The love and technology just keep soaring. Welcome back home to Boeing. :D
