Pilot and Co-Pilot

We are all Pilots!

It's time to bring the world up to date on the correct terminology of pilots.

"Are you the pilot or the copilot?"

Karlene and An in the Netherlands flying an A320

Anyone Who Flies a Plane is a Pilot.

Captain: The pilot in the left seat for takeoff and landing. Wears four strips, makes more money than the first officer, gets the steak on the crew meal, and is the final authority over decisions.

First Officer: The pilot in the right seat for takeoff and landing. Wears three stripes, makes not as much money as the captain, supports the captain's final authority, and flies in the left seat during the captain's break.

Pilot: Either a Captain or First Officer.

Enjoy the Journey!
XO Karlene

  1. Great post! A flight deck is a beautiful place to work.

So, the 4th stripe... stands for STEAK? :)

    1. And I thought the three stripes meant:
      1... I
      2... Am
      3... The
      4... God

YES, the best office in the world!!

  2. Thank you so much for taking me there Karlene and for sharing this wonderful experience!
And for ketting me 'fly' the A320 as your co-pilot!
I got to meet Some awesome people as a bonus too!
Hope to see you again soon.

    1. I am so glad we could do this! It was so much fun!!! I am looking forward to seeing you again too. And thank you so much for my birthday gifts!!

  3. I was on a flight last month where the FO announced that he was the "Co-Captain." I literally laughed out loud. The guy in the seat next to me just looked trying to figure out what was so humorous.

I am glad to be a FO so I don't have to fly with "Co-Captains." You can't have two bosses and you cant serve two masters.

    1. We are all serving many masters...the company, the FAA, the spouse... ourselves. lol
      I'm thinking I like the co-captain!
I'll try that on for a fit.
Thanks for the comment... live from AMS
